June 17, 1935 January 13, 2018 Dolores Aston Shell, a longtime resident of Auburn, AL died on January 13, 2018 at Aspire Rehab Facility in Birmingham, AL. Born on June 17, 1935 in Winfield, AL, Dolores graduated from The University of Alabama with a degree in music. She later earned master’s and education specialist’s degrees in music from Auburn University. Comer School in Sylacauga; Tallapoosa, Georgia; Opelika, Alabama; and 22 years in the Auburn City Schools. Dolores’ volunteer work included many years as a travel consultant for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Auburn University. She also taught in a special school in Pec, Hungary, and helped to build a boardwalk at the Carl Wynn Nature Center in Homer, Alaska. During her lifetime, Dolores visited 42 countries. Her favorite trips were to New Zealand, Austria, and Norway. Dolores enjoyed staying long enough to come to know the people and their culture. Dolores Shell is survived by her husband, William B Shell; two daughters, Mauria Shell (Rob Leonard) and Suzette Shell (Harry Giles); a granddaughter, Amber Aston Shell; and a sister, Jo Aston Burgess of Sylacauga. The burial service will be held for Dolores Aston Shell at 10 o’clock on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 100 Church Drive, in Auburn, Alabama. The commitment of her ashes to the Columbarium and a reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Dunstan’s Garden Close Fund, 136 E. Magnolia Ave., Auburn, Alabama 36830. Alabama Funeral Homes Cremation Centers of Dadeville are in charge of the arrangements.
