It’s Yeezy season, y’all!
After a number of hints and teases on Twitter ahead of his big show today in Madison Square Garden, the time has come for Kanye Westto officially debut his Yeezy Season 3 collection during New York Fashion week today, and as you may have expected, it’s becoming quite the extravaganza.
First off, this is a star studded affair, with celebs like, Young Thug, 2 Chainz, Tyga, Kid Cudi, Jonathan Cheban, Austin Mahone, Anna Wintour,
and, of course, his wife Kim Kardashiandaughter North West and her famous family (all wearing white) in attendance, just to name a few.
Additionally, along with previewing his latest pieces, Yeezy debuted new music off of his highly anticipated album The Life of Pablo. Clothes and a concert?! Yes, please! According to tickets, there is also a performance featuring contemporary artist Vanessa Beecroft, and a lengthy set of performance rules that have hit the Internet.
Kanye went straight to the DJ booth upon arrival to introduce his new album, and told guests, “I’m gonna play a new album, feel free to dance and move. This first one is called ‘Ultra Light Beams,'” and proceeded to dance and mingle with guests as his music filled MSG.
Similar to his previous shows,
Kanye ditched the traditional walk down the runway, and showcased all of the different pieces at once. Once transitioning to his second song, “Father Stretch My Hands,” the curtains dropped and revealed a number of models standing solemnly in the middle of the crowd wearing the Yeezy Season 3 collection. Meanwhile, guests, including Kanye, are still dancing to his new music.
One model in particular stood out, and that was Naomi Campbell. Yep, the iconic supermodel is part of the show, wearing black fur and a black body suit (and looking flawless, obviously).
Although the clothes themselves are attention grabbing to the simple cut and design as his previous lines, but still creative in their own respect of the focus seemed to go to his music. Another track titled “Famous,” is said to be about Taylor Swift and includes the line, “I made that bitch famous.” Kylie Jenner was spotted dancing and singing along to the song with her sisters Kendall Jenner, Khloe Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian.
Kanye also played tracks “Highlights” and “Wolves.”
Kanye addresses the crowd,
“New York City! How are you feeling about my album? Tell me how you feeling about the clothes this season. I think I make money as a celeb or this is easy to do, one of the hardest thing to do is to believe in me and come work with a rapper. It feels so good to see my brothers, my wife, her sisters, and all of New York standing behind the crazy n a from the interviews. I want to thank Vanessa Beecroft. Fashion Book and going to their wedding, calling her a “real bitch.”
He also revealed that his wife is not the only one in the family to have her own game. Kanye created a video game dedicated to his late mother, Donda, called “Only One: The Game.” It features his track “Only One” and focuses on the concept of his mother going through the Gates of Heaven. “Y’all act like s t is regular. You don’t understand I meet with everybody in San Fran and they diss the f k out of me. I want to make a game and say f k you. That s t was hard to do, man.
Additionally, he tells guests, “My dream, I told Anna Wintour this backstage, to be the Creative Director of Hermes. I just want to bring as much beauty to the world as possible. I’m only 38 years old.”
To close out the show, Kanye thanks Adidas,
Jay Z and fans for allowing him to do this show and for their support. He then tells everyone he has to hand the iPod over and go backstage to be with Kim and the kids. He thanks the crowd again for letting him “spill his guts out,” and also give a nod to Kirk Franklin, Rihanna and others for doing features on his album.
