After Luke Pinkelman won the men’s shot put last night, Victoria Zimmerman added another title for the Husker throwers with a win in the women’s weight throw. Zimmerman tossed a personal best of 61 7 last weekend at the adidas Classic and nearly matched the mark on Saturday with a throw of 61 2. Two other Huskers joined Zimmerman in the top five, as Jade Siegel finished fourth with a personal best of 57 5 and Samantha Musil was next in fifth with a personal best of 56 11 .
Natalie Willer matched her season best in the pole vault with a third place jump of 14 1 . Willer and Stanford’s Katherina Stefanidi both cleared the same height, but Stefanidi took second on less misses. The Husker senior previously hit the mark at the Holiday Inn Invitational, which automatically qualified her for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Junior Chris Phipps showed no signs of rust in his first triple jump competition of the season, as he took sixth with a leap of 51 10, which was just shy of his PR of 51 11 . On Friday night, Phipps was one of three Husker long jumpers to record a season best with his fourth place leap of 25 3 .
In the middle distance races, Tommy Brinn and Ashley Miller each recorded personal best. Brinn cut nearly two seconds off his previous best of 1:52.06 in the 800 meters with a time of 1:50.34, while Miller cut over nine seconds of her mile best of 4:58.82 with a time of 4:49.68.
