Culver’s Restaurant will open a restaurant on Tamiami Trail, its second in the area, later this year.

The Wisconsin based chain, known for its “ButterBurgers” and frozen custard, opened its first restaurant in the region at 2605 University Parkway in April.

Main Street to get a bowling alley; tenants to get facelift

Evie’s Tavern will open a bowling alley on Main Street next to a new Taco Bus, a popular Tampa Bay based restaurant chain, said Norman Gollub, downtown economic development coordinator in Sarasota.

Construction is ongoing at the one story building, which once housed the Bullet Hole and Tube Dude retail spaces.

Plans for the building’s new facade include setting store entrances back three feet from the property line to allow for plants and more streetside space. The Drunken Poet and Pho Cali Noodle House restaurants will also get a facelift, Gollub said.

Pelican Plaza, owned by Benderson Development, recently underwent major renovations. The mostly vacant center has struggled since its former anchor, Linens ‘n Things, closed in 2008 following a bankruptcy filing by its parent company. Former tenants included a Plato’s Closet and a 107,000 square foot Bealls Outlet store, which closed in late 2013 before renovations began.
