all black adidas predators Local girls at the Crossroads
Four girls who will be familiar to those who follow local high school soccer will be hoping to keep their winning streak going this weekend with their club Mockingbird Valley.
Taylor Patty, Rebekah Burgan, Lauren Haley and Casey Marlin are an integral part of the club’s U17 team, which recently won all three of its matchups to at the adidas Bluechip Showcase in Oxford, Ohio.
Tim Nowak’s charges beat Ohio Premier Eagles (2 1) and Fort Wayne Fever (2 0), as well as Greater Toledo of Ohio (2 1), which also doubled up as a Midwest Regional League game. The girls are currently 2 1 in the league’s First Division (White).
Mockingbird ’94 will be playing in the Crossroads of America College Showcase in Carmel this weekend against Cleveland, Blast and Ohio Galaxies (also MRL games).
Teams from across the country and Canada will participate in the eighth running of the tournament, which attracts many college coaches.
They have just been drawn in a bracket with CKSC, Atletico Flames and KSA Select Steele for the preliminary round, which takes place in Lexington from May 27 30, with the top two teams progressing to the Final Four weekend in Bowling Green on June 4 5.
Meanwhile, two other locals heading to Carmel for the Crossroads tournament are Kady O’Farrell (Floyd Central) and Leah Mattingly (Providence) as part of Javanon ’95. The team will take on Ohio’s Internationals Cleveland and Cincinnati United in games which also double up as MRL Premier Division encounters.
The team performed well at the adidas Blue Chip Showcase, posting two wins and a tie in the U16 section. Javanon ’95 is currently ranked one in Kentucky, unbeaten in three games in the MRL, and looking in good shape to retain its state title.
Trio help Javanon win at Javanon
Three southern Indiana boys with ambitions of Kentucky State Cup glory next month are Grant Hollkamp, Andrew Kennedy and Tyler McGeorge.
The trio are part of Javanon U14s,
which grabbed some hardware during the club’s eponymously named tournament last week in Louisville.
Their first two games were against Tennessee opposition, beating Brentwood 2 1 before falling to FC Alliance by the same scoreline.
The following day, they beat Scott Gallagher Italy from Illinois 3 0, and advanced to the final, where they beat St Louis Scott Gallagher 2 0.
Hollkamp, who we have featured before for his exploits with the Midwest Region 2 1997 ODP team, is from Borden, while Kennedy resides in Lanesville and McGeorge is from Highland Hills.
The boys are part of a Javanon team which just missed on the State Cup championship last year, when losing out to Lexington in the final, but they are confident of going one better this time round.
Fischer and Davis in Memphis shootout
Mockingbird U16 Classic, featuring Jeffersonville’s Brian Fischer and Skyler Davis, was just edged out at the Memphis Champions Cup last week.
The boys lost out on penalty kicks in the championship decider to Tri State of Cincinnati, losing after a scoreless encounter which went to overtime.
In earlier games, Fischer had a goal in the team’s 2 0 win against Tupelo of Mississippi, as well as a goal and an assist in Mockingbird’s first game against Tri State, which ended in a 3 3 tie. Davis had two assists in the game against Radcliff FC, a 3 0 win.
