DeMaio the Arby Player of Week
Indiana University Southeast and Arby have teamed up to award and recognize student athlete achievements. Christina DeMaio, a 5 foot 10 inch senior forward on the Grenadier women basketball team, has been recognized as the Arby Player of the Week.
DeMaio averaged 19.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, four blocks and four assists in three IUS victories last week.
Smith helps Bellarmine beat Rockhurst
Floyd Central graduate Angela Smith scored 16 points to help Bellarmine defeat Rockhurst at Knights Hall on Saturday, 94 60.
Smith was 5 of 11 from the field and nailed four 3 pointers. Ashley Elmore led the Knights (3 2, 2 1 Great Lakes Valley Conference) with 20 points.
Bellarmine will visit Indianapolis on Thursday.
Stewart scores seven in KWC loss
Jeffersonville graduate Lauren Stewart scored seven points on Saturday as Kentucky Wesleyan College lost at Missouri Rolla, 64 55.
Stewart grabbed a game high nine rebounds and shot 2 of 11 from the field. The Panthers (2 3, 0 2 Great Lakes Valley Conference) will host Lewis on Thursday.
Richards scores 14 in LMU loss
Floyd Central graduate Madeline Richards scored a team high 14 points on Saturday as Lincoln Memorial University lost at home to Tusculum, 71 59.
Richards shot 6 of 11 from the field and 2 of 5 from the free throw line. Lincoln Memorial will play at Carson Newman this coming Saturday.
Bellarmine earns first GLVC win
Bellarmine picked up its first Great Lakes Valley Conference win of the season on Saturday at Knights Hall, defeating Rockhurst 67 59.
Floyd Central graduate Kyle Thrasher had seven points and a team high two assists in the winning effort. Also for the Knights (4 3, 2 1 GLVC), Jeffersonville grad Matt Pait had three points and New Albany alumnus Marcus Flynn had two. Bellarmine Calvin Fowler scored a game high 18 points.
Bellarmine will travel to Indianapolis on Thursday.
Sharks to host Adidas Junior Phenom Camp
The Southern Indiana Sharks, a not for profit student athlete development organization, will be hosting the Adidas Junior Phenom Camp at the Southern Indiana Sports Center, located behind IU Southeast in the New Albany Industrial Park.
The camp is open to the first 60 entrants from a four state area in the fifth, sixth and seventh grades to compete for a chance to advance to the Adidas National Exposure Event to be held in San Diego in August.
The fieldhouse is trying to find players for boys and girls teams in the 9 to 15 under divisions. Also, it is signing up players for a girls 16 under team.
